I just downloaded the huge sound file that is for tr3. I'm looking for a certain sound. The problem though is that even if the sounds are ripped (sound jack?) they are not named like the original tr3 sound. They are named like "TR3 sound - 221-0" etc. while the ripped ones are not (although the files have numbers, they are not the same!)
Now my sweet editor tells me that I need one of these sounds...and I have no idea how it sounds, so I can't even start with the huge task of listening to all of them LOL!
Does anyone know if there is some kind of chart or similar so you can trace the ripped sounds back to its original name?
Any help is appreciated!!

I managed to get the one I was looking for elsewhere. And no, it was not the 221 one as it was just an example http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/wink.gif Thanks for the hint though!! I was hoping there would be some way to get the real sound ID from the ripped files.
It is extremly hard to know..especially when you have no idea how the sound the editor needs actually sounds LOL!
Example:
Lets say you rip a trapdoor from a tr3 level. You start the compiling and all of a sudden the editor tells you that you need "tr3 sound 261-0". It would be hard even if you knew how it sounds...(listening through all the samples and rename it!) but when you have no idea how that trapdoor sounds...no luck
Well to be honest, if it was a trapdoor I'm sure I could locate it hehe but lets say it is some other weird sound from an object. Damn it sucks that the tr3 and tr2 sounds are in a huge file. Stupid core j/k http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif tr4-4 files are so much easier to deal with hehe.

Have you only tried the Sound Jack and Tomb Ripper QRS? There's another TR ripper ( Xtract Tomb Raider WAVs) here..

Yes I have tried them all and none of them get the sound ID I need
I could not get the tomb ripper to work under XP though, so I can't tell if that one does it. I have also tried screamer and a few other programs.
Some fine tools here btw
Thanks for your help, Val! I will do my best to solve it. Although 5 hours of hard work today and 10 yesterday is making my hair turn more grey than it already was LOL! I have to learn these things sometime or I will forever be a not so talanted builder http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/wink.gif
Btw, I finally started playing TRA again. This time I will finish it! Last time I went through 1/3 and had a HD crash
A wonderful adventure it is. I really understand that you love that one!!

I just ran the tomb ripper on XP http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/gy.gif LOL... well looking at the files within the TR3 CD they are named, and show up as ...

and the small wavs are numbered...

then when they save they show up as they do in the tomb ripper..

I dont know if that helps at all? I sort of got very confused with what u meant

Wow! Tombripper looks like a real gem! I have no idea why I can't run it
Not even in compability mode wuth 95-98 *sob*
It doesn't show the numbers as I want them though but the numbers for the small wavs might be more close to the original. In any way, a ripper would be nice for getting the audiofiles too!
Let me try to explain it again why it is so difficult without the correct ID number of the samples:
In tr4-tr5 if you miss a sound, you only need the name of it and insert it in the sample folder. That's it! All the sample sounds are separate and even if they also have strange ID's (similar to tr2-3) the editor wants the real names for them. Just look in the sample folder to see what I mean.
In tr2-3 the sound is in a big file called 'main.sfx.' and you have to use a ripper to exctract the sounds. (same with the audio files but the file is even bigger and is called 'cdaudio.wav' I think) If you are supposed to use those sounds in the LE (If you rip objects from tr3 the editor wants the sounds!), you need the real names for the sounds though...and those are like "TR sound 164-2" or "TR3 sound 75-0" Those sounds might be called "Sound 002" and "Sound 124" if you rip them...there is the problem.
If I know what sound a door makes, I can take some time to check all the sounds that are ripped and search for it and rename it. BUT...If I have no idea how it sounds and the editor just screams "TR3 sound-234-1 is missing" I have no idea what to do LOL!
And yes TRA is a gem. I just finished the beehive levels and man...It is even more impressing now when I have some knwledge in building. That guy is a genious, period.
Btw, how come you have no built anything and released it? I would love to try one of your levels, so start building now! http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif

Ah i get it now.. well then there has to be a way because as i say, stormy used lots of these TR3 sound-234-1 files, and that's how they are named in the levels downloads.. unless he renamed them all of course
Reviewers scare me

Hi QRS, ... Erm ... im not quite sure what you are asking so i ask YOU lol.
The objects that need the sounds, where did you get them and how did you put them in LE?
Its been awhile since i built anything but i remember using TR3 audio in my last level, but i only used the music tracks, not object sounds separately ... well, i changed gun shots etc, but i just renamed and replaced the original files in C:\\Core Design\trle\sound\Samples folder so thats nothing.
Im not sure but i think i replaced objects, i mean changed original objects in the WAD with the Wadmerger... but at this point my memory fails ...
I only used special objects that someone else ripped or build but i think the sounds are then included with the WAD.
I remember using TR Search engine but i couldnt find the site anymore
WADMerger can be found from http://www.larasleve...stuff/index.asp
I used 1.9 version.
Im also wondering why you can run the TombRipper ... Im on XP Pro SP2 and it works perfectly.
Maybe ... just maybe you put the WADs of the objects you used in your level somehow wrong ...

I can't really explain it better than I have already done earlier in the thread http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/wink.gif http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/wink.gif http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/wink.gif
And yes, I can replace some tr3 sounds and simply replace some unused ordinary tr4 sound etc. I have used wadmerger a lot so I know what I'm doing. The problem is that I'm not using objects that other people have ripped/converted..I'm trying to rip them myself and then the tr3 sounds are needed.
If you find an object on trsearch etc they are already fixed and you only need to add them to the wad. That is easy http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/wink.gif http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/wink.gif It is not easy to do it yourself though hehe So I have noticed!!
Oh and I have no idea why I can't run some tr programs when I use xp
It doesn't matter what I do..not even if I change the compatibility etc. Thy only crash. I guess there are factors unknown to us that causes that...not only xp vs 98 I think.

Lol, Val! It is not that hard to use those programs. Only when you find certain problems or things go wrong haha. I rememebr thinking the same when I first opened wadmerger though LOL! I was like "Nahh this is too much for me"
But my advice is that you try it out for a while as you will not regret it when you start building. It is more fun that playing the games IMHO. Go for it! If I can do it, anyone can!
