Angelina Jolie gives birth to daughter

Saturday, May 27, 2006; Posted: 9:50 p.m. EDT (01:50 GMT)
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Angelina Jolie gave birth to Brad Pitt's daughter Saturday in Africa, Pitt's publicist announced.

"The night of May 27, 2006 in Namibia, Africa, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. No further information is being given," publicist Cindy Guagenti said in a statement.

No photographs were being released, she added.

The baby's arrival had been the subject of intense press speculation in recent months, compelling the superstar couple to decamp to Africa for privacy.

The actors were linked romantically shortly after appearing together in the 2005 movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

Jolie, 30, is a frequent visitor to Africa and serves as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Jolie has two adopted children: toddler Zahara, from Ethiopia, and 4-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia.

Both had their surnames legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intentions to co-adopt the children.

Pitt and actress Jennifer Aniston divorced last fall.

Jolie, who won an Oscar for her supporting role in 1999's "Girl, Interrupted," is divorced from Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee M

Shortly before delivery we could read this on ContactMusic :

Quote

JOLIE TO GIVE BIRTH TODAY, SAY REPORTS
ANGELINA JOLIE will give birth in Namibia later today (27MAY06), according to the latest US reports. The actress' doctors convinced her to give birth by Caesarean section yesterday (26MAY06) due to a minor complication, according to American publication In Touch. But insiders insist the birth will be "routine" when the 30-year-old becomes a natural mother for the first time later today. The TOMB RAIDER star, boyfriend BRAD PITT and their adopted children MADDOX and ZAHARA have been holed up in a compound at Namibia's Burning Shore resort for almost two months awaiting the arrival of their first child together. The baby will be born in a local hospital, according to the In Touch insider after Jolie was advised against giving birth naturally, as planned, at her Swakopmund resort home late last week. The baby, a girl, will be delivered by the actress' American obstetrician/gynaecologist, who was flown out to Namibia earlier this month (MAY06).
27/05/2006 09:53

And now it is DONE ! Don't yet if she gave birth naturally or by Caesarean section ! But the little girl is THERE, that's what matters. What matters too is that the mom is in good health too.

By Shafiek Tassiem and Howard Burditt

WALVIS BAY, Namibia (Reuters) - A star is born.

Hollywood heavyweights Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt -- described as the "World's Most Beautiful Family" by 'People' -- have had a baby daughter in one of the most anticipated celebrity stories of the year, the magazine said on Sunday.

A representative for the couple said Jolie, 30, had given birth to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt on Saturday in Namibia, a sparsely populated desert country in southwest Africa. There were no further details available, People reported.

The couple, dubbed "Brangelina" by the tabloids, have been closely followed by the paparazzi in Namibia since arriving there weeks ago to have their baby.

Jolie reportedly took a shine to Namibia, better known for dunes and diamonds, while filming the movie "Beyond Borders". She is a frequent visitor to Africa and is a Goodwill Ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

The couple have been staying in a sealed off beach resort in the tiny village of Langstrand and it was unclear if the child had been delivered there or at one of the private hospitals in the nearby towns of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund.

Local residents in the Walvis Bay, shrouded in fog on Sunday morning, were thrilled by the celebrity birth.

"It's great ... She has put us on the map. It is a great thing," said resident Della van Noorten.
Another resident, who asked not to be named, was also very happy but told the media to lay off.

"I am happy for her -- and leave them alone," the resident said.

MADE IN THE MOVIES

Pitt, 42, met Jolie in 2004 while they were working together on the film "Mr and Mrs Smith," in which they played married assassins ordered to kill each other. The movie ends with them still alive and happily married.

Representatives for Jolie and Pitt could not be immediately reached for comment.

Jolie already has two adopted children -- son Maddox, 4, and daughter Zahara, who is about 15 months old.

The couple's stay in Namibia spurred a local media frenzy with increasingly wild and unconfirmed stories including suggestions that the new baby would be named by an African chief or delivered underwater in a "water birth".

Green cloth screens mask the beach resort where they are staying and bodyguards and Namibian security have kept a tight cordon around them, hounding some journalists out of town.

Photographers from all over the world have come to the area hoping to capture the first picture of the baby, which is expected to garner a multimillion-dollar price tag.
In a sign of media fascination with the pair, "New York" magazine recently said the baby was the most anticipated since Jesus and would be more newsworthy than the recent birth of a daughter to Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

A South African photographer was arrested on Wednesday for the second time after he was caught on private property trying to snap a picture of Pitt and Jolie.

Jolie, who won an Academy Award as best supporting actress for playing a psychiatric patient in "Girl, Interrupted," was divorced from actor Billy Bob Thornton in 2003. Before that she was married to actor Jonny Lee Miller.

Pitt, a heart-throb famed for his looks and roles in movies such as "Fight Club" and "A River Runs Through It," and "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston were divorced last year.

And now, dear Angiefans, the translation from an article in free commuters paper in belgium (Métro) :
Los Angeles.
One of the most expected babies in the world is born : last Saturday the actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt became the parents of a little girl, announced Brad Pitt's agent.
"In the night of May 27, 2006, in Namibia, africa, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed their daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. No other information has been given", declared agent Cindy Guagenti. No photo has been released. Much has been speculated about the baby's birth these latest months, that's why the american moviestar couple went to Namibia to have some privacy. Angelina, who acted video game hero Lara Croft knows well the African continent, where she often goes to as Goodwill Ambassador to the UNHCR".

"Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt has tufts of brown hair like her mother and the nose of her father, according to sources at the Welwitschia Clinic in Walvis Bay, Namibia."

and once again theres this little "problem" conserning Marcheline bertrand origins:) ( read the contactmusic...above) is she french? or North American, with French-Canadian and... origin???

most news we get now are copy and paste of some source (that really doesn't know too much of what they are writting about)

...all we want is for AJ and Shiloh to be OK:)

"Jolie and Pitt celebrated the birth by donating $300,000 (U.S.) to help other babies in this impoverished southern African country, according to a government statement Monday."

Doctor: Jolie, Baby Doing Well in Namibia

It looks like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got what every parent wants - a healthy baby. While Namibian officials declined Sunday to give any details on the birth Saturday of Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, a doctor at the hospital said there were no complications and the mother and daughter were doing well.

"She is a healthy baby," the doctor said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release information.

Police ringed the hospital with tight security Sunday, refusing to admit journalists and photographers into the building.

Pitt's publicist Cindy Guagenti announced the birth Saturday night, but said no other information or photographs would be released.

Samuel Nuuyoma, the governor of the Namibian region of Erongo, confirmed the birth at the Welwitschia Clinic in Walvis Bay and seemed to hint that key details would be released shortly.

"Any information relating to the birth of the baby will be made available to the public soon," said Nuuyoma, who has become friends with the celebrity couple.

The government has gone to extraordinary lengths to protect the privacy of Jolie and Pitt, who came to Namibia to avoid photographers and in the weeks leading up to the birth of their first child.

Namibia put tight security around their hotel and the hospital, set up large green barriers to protect their privacy from photographers and refused to grant visas to any foreign journalists unless they had written permission from Jolie and Pitt to cover the birth.

Police have also arrested photographers and confiscated film.

Speculation about the birth escalated Tuesday when Pitt sent an e-mail to the Cannes Film Festival that he was unable to attend the screening of his new film "Babel" because of the baby's "imminent arrival."

In "Babel," directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the 42-year-old Pitt plays a husband and father trying to cope with a crisis on vacation in Morocco. Cate Blanchett plays Pitt's wife, and the film also stars Gael Garcia Bernal.

"I am tremendously proud of `Babel' and want to congratulate everyone involved for this great achievement," Pitt said in the e-mail.

Jolie and Pitt were linked romantically shortly after appearing together in the 2005 movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

Jolie, 30, is a frequent visitor to Africa and serves as goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. She has two adopted children: toddler Zahara, from Ethiopia, and 4-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia. Both had their surnames legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intentions to adopt the children as well.

Pitt and actress Jennifer Aniston divorced last fall.

Jolie, who won an Oscar for her supporting role in 1999's "Girl, Interrupted," is divorced from Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.

Thank you Gab and Solo for all that information.
Good to have the picture of the hospital !
Essential is that both Shiloh and her mom are fit and well !
And I'd like to say here that I'm positively amazed by the efficiency of Namibian police : they have done and are still doing great work, they're efficient, they did well to arrest paps and to confiscate films.
If some Namibian policemen and policewomen visit our site and read the forums, I'd like to tell them :
"Well done, ladies and gentleman, good work, congratulation for your efficiency ! "

Yes, it's a great mission to ensure Brad's and Angie's security and privacy, and Namibian responsibles are doing so well !

Jolie-Pitt Baby Delivered by US Doctor

I think it's true, it's not the first time I hear that !

And this interesting article from CNN, C-section seems to be confirmed; read also about the meaning of the names :

Quote

Jolie-Pitt baby is the 'Peaceful One'
Child's name drawn from Hebrew, French

Wednesday, May 31, 2006; Posted: 4:23 a.m. EDT (08:23 GMT)
NEW YORK (AP) -- Nothing was normal about the birth of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's child, so naturally, neither was their baby's name.

The child -- whose pending arrival created a frenzy of hyperbole making it, according to one Web site executive, "the most anticipated baby since Jesus Christ" -- was named Shiloh, which means "Peaceful One" in Hebrew and, according to a Bible dictionary, refers to the Messiah. ("Messiah" comes from "mashiach," Hebrew for "anointed one.")

Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt was born Saturday evening -- via C-section, according to People magazine -- in Namibia where her famous parents had withdrawn for the birth, aided by considerable protection from the African country's government.

As of Tuesday, the baby was reportedly in good health, though the family was yet to make a public appearance. The couple also have two adopted children, 4-year-old Maddox and 14-month-old Zahara.

In a statement to People magazine, Jolie thanked the staff of Cottage Medi-Clinic Hospital. Jolie's obstetrician from Los Angeles, Dr. Jason Rothbart, told People that he delivered the child, who weighed seven pounds, by Caesarean section "due to breech presentation."
Pitt, he said, "was with Angelina in the operating room the entire time and cut the umbilical cord of his daughter. The surgery and the birth went flawlessly."

A Hebrew name, Shiloh is "generally understood as denoting the Messiah, 'the peaceful one,' " according to Easton's Bible Dictionary, an 1897 work of biblical definitions.

The Web site http://www.babynames.com lists Shiloh as a name that can apply to either a boy or girl. It also points out the famous Battle of Shiloh in 1862, a pivotal battle in the Civil War fought in southwestern Tennessee near a church named Shiloh.

The child's middle name, Nouvel, most obviously translates from the French, meaning "new." If one were to take a literal approach to analyzing the entire name, Jolie and Pitt could appear exceedingly bold in dubbing their daughter the "new Messiah."

Bruce Lansky, a self-described "baby name guru" and author of "100,000-plus Baby Names," says the name is "unusual without being silly."

"What is interesting is Brad and Angelina went all the way to Namibia to have their baby girl and rather than choose a traditional African name to signify the birth -- like many thought they would -- they chose Shiloh, also meaning 'God is great' in Hebrew," Lansky said.

Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt is only the latest instance of a unique name bestowed on a celebrity child. Lately, names rooted in Hebrew are all the rage.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby, who was preceded by nearly as much anticipation as Jolie and Pitt's, was famously named Suri, which the couple said means "princess" in Hebrew (or "red rose" in Persian). Some doubted the Hebrew origin, instead suggesting the more accurate meaning was "pointy nose" from Todas, a language spoken by a Southern India tribe.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin named their second child Moses, born in April. Their first child, Apple, remains one of the most renowned examples of esoteric names given to celebrity babies.

Right now, a truly original name for a celebrity's child might simply be Jack, or Jill.

Something more about Shiloh's name ??? Read this (ContactMusic) :

SHILOH WAS NAMED AFTER JOLIE'S BROTHER
ANGELINA JOLIE and BRAD PITT named their baby daughter after the actress' brother JAMES HAVEN VOIGHT - he has revealed. Haven claims he was originally given Shiloh - which means 'messiah' or 'peaceful one' - as a middle name by his and Jolie's parents JON VOIGHT and MARCHELINE BERTRAND, before they switched it at the last minute. The 33 year old actor tells Grazia magazine, "At the last second, my parents gave me Haven instead. "So it was very cool when Brad and Angie came to me and said: 'We're thinking of names and our favourite is Shiloh. We know that was your original name, so would that be OK?'. "I was almost in tears - I was so honoured."

Shiloh is a "wanted" child, it's true Angie said she would never have a child biologically because there are so many unhappy children all over the world, so it's better to adopt and save a few of them. But, read this (contactMusic)

Quote

JOLIE: 'SHILOH WAS PLANNED'

ANGELINA JOLIE has dismissed speculation her pregnancy with daughter Shiloh was unplanned, after she previously insisted she wouldn't have a biological child. Jolie adopted Cambodian orphan Maddox in 2002 as her marriage to Billy Bob Thornton was falling apart and was happy to raise him as a single mother. In 2002, Jolie said, I'm drawn to kids that are already born. I think some people are meant to do certain things, and I believe I'm meant to find my children in the world somewhere and not necessarily have them genetically." However, after meeting current partner BRAD PITT and adopting a second child, Ethiopian-born Zahara Marley, Jolie began to ponder becoming a mother biologically. She tells Reader's Digest magazine, "Before I met Brad, I always said I was happy never to have a child biologically. He told me he hadn't given up that thought. "Then, a few months after (Zahara) came home, I saw Brad with her and (Maddox), and I realised how much he loved them - that a biological child would not in any way be a threat. So I said, 'I want to try.'" Jolie gave birth to Shiloh Nouvel in Namibia last May (06).

JOLIE CHUCKLED THROUGH CHILDBIRTH
Giving birth was a laugh a minute for ANGELINA JOLIE - and she has home video footage to prove it. The actress admits she couldn't stop laughing as medics performed the Caesarian surgery prior to baby daughter Shiloh's birth, and partner Brad Pitt caught her hysterics on film. She says, "They were trying to put the IV in me, and I began laughing so hard, with tears rolling down my face. I was out of my mind." And the hysterics didn't end there - Jolie kept laughing as she breast fed her baby daughter for the first time 30 minutes later. She adds, "I was on the phone with my mom, who was also in the hospital. We were laughing because we were both under the same assumed name, and we both had been given a dose of morphine."

Shiloh Sucks Her Thumb
Sat, 18 August 2007 at 7:01 pm

Angelina Jolie takes time out from her busy filming schedule and joins Brad Pitt and the rest of the family on a boat cruise on Lake Michigan in Chicago on Saturday.

The family chartered a boat to watch the annual ‘Water and Air’ festival, which is in its 49th year and is the longest two-day festival of its kind. The U. S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U. S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights headline the massively popular event. Dazzling performances by the U. S. Air Force Thunderbirds are the highlight of the air show. F-16 Fighting Falcons command the blue skies with precision flying. This year, for the first time, there will be two female pilots.

The show combines an air show and boat show and is one of the biggest shows in America.

Hey look, Maddox’s shoes are as big as his head!
