NEW YORK Jul 13, 2006 (AP)— Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, whose relationship was spawned on a film set, will again work together this time on a movie based on the life of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan.
Jolie will star as Pearl's wife, Mariane Pearl, in an adaptation of her book, "A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl," it was announced Thursday. Pitt will produce the film, directed by Michael Winterbottom.
In an ironic twist, the movie will be produced by Revolution Films and Plan B, the production company Pitt and his wife, Jennifer Aniston, founded. Pitt and Aniston, who were divorced last year, remain co-owners of the company.
It is the first announced on-screen role for Jolie, 31, since the birth of daughter Shiloh Nouvel, born in Namibia in May. The couple have two older children, 18-month-old Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia, and 4-year-old Maddox, adopted from Cambodia.
Pitt, 42, and Jolie first collaborated as co-stars in last year's "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."
"I am delighted that Angelina Jolie will be playing my role in the adaptation of my book," Pearl said in a statement. "I deeply admire her work and what she is committed to."
Neither a start date for shooting nor an estimated release date for the film, which will be produced and distributed by Paramount Vantage were announced. There was no announcement about who would play Daniel Pearl.
The movie will be based on Mariane Pearl's account of her husband's abduction in Karachi, Pakistan, while researching a story on Islamic militancy. Months later, his beheaded body was found in a shallow grave in a compound on the outskirts of Karachi.
Pitt, who is producing a slew of upcoming films, will next star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's "Babel" and as Jesse James in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford."
Jolie will next be seen in "The Good Shepherd," directed by Robert De Niro. She will also lend her voice to two animated features: "Beowulf" and "Kung Fu Panda."
In producing "A Mighty Heart," Pitt is joined by Dede Gardner of Plan B and Andrew Eaton of Revolution Films.

A MIGHTY HEART chronicles Mariane's search for her husband, a Wall Street Journal reporter, who was abducted by terrorists and killed in Pakistan in 2002. CAPOTE SCREENWRITER SECRETLY JOINS JOLIE FILM
CAPOTE screenwriter DAN FUTTERMAN has secretly been cast opposite ANGELINA JOLIE in a film about slain Wall Street Journal reporter DANIEL PEARL. Jolie made headlines last month (JUL06) when it was announced she was playing Pearl's widow MARIANNE in the film adaptation of her 2003 memoir A MIGHTY HEART. But Paramount Pictures made no mention at the time of who would be playing her husband, leading many to speculate the role was yet to be cast. In fact, Futterman, who is best known for his recurring role on US TV drama JUDGING AMY, had already been selected and was secretly filming in Pakistan. The casting was kept a closely guarded secret because of security concerns and crewmembers were sworn to secrecy during the 10-day shoot on location in Karachi and Islamabad. Director MICHAEL WINTERBOTTOM and a skeleton crew went to Pakistan undercover, hoping to be mistaken for a documentary or news crew. Futterman, who agreed to be interviewed only after he returned to the US, tells the Washington Post, "It was important to shoot in the actual places where things happened. "There are lots of little things that were important to (Winterbottom), not least of all the people and the sound of the language spoken." Pearl was a respected journalist at the time he was abducted and killed in Pakistan - four months before his wife gave birth to their son - while researching a story about Muslim fundamentalists.

well...its a bit evil from Brads side, but anyway i dont see it working if Jen was having the part...do u ?! plus i would say with hand on my hearth i dont think Jen is good enough for the big screen!! she is amazing in Friends, but there all ends..even her other comedies are not as good as the serial..so to give her such a strong part u must really trust her talent and from what we have seen lately ...its not much ... shortly i dont know if Angelina will win Oscar...or even if she will be nominated, but one thing we know she has more skills then Jen for the big screen...

We don't always imagine that a team filming on the spot can encounter some problems when we watch a lovely movie in a theater or on TV, comfortably sitting in an armchair, maybe eating some popcorn, sipping a pint of beer or smoking a ciggy.
Read this story, this happened in Pakistan to a team working on Angie's next movie.(source ContactMusic) :

Latest info : Angie is gonna fly to Pakistan next month to start filming "A Mighty Heart".
Angie will play the role of Marianne Pearl, widow of Daniel Pearl abducted and killed by terrorists in Pakistan.
When this happened, she was 5 months pregnant, so it's a role of a pregnant woman !
Do you remember another movie where she pretended to be pregnant, but wasn't.
Come on .... yeah, you've got it, it was at the end of "Taking Lives" !
Yes, Angie, you're going back to work, good luck and enjoy the filming !
Here is a photo of Angie (January 2006 when she was pregnant, no, she isn't now !) and one of Ms. Pearl.

Pune agog ahead of Hollywood star couple's visit"
Quote
By Michael Gonsalves, Pune, Sep 23: The impending visit of top Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt for a film shoot in this western Indian city has all the top hoteliers and apartment owners reserving rooms for the crew that is to stay several weeks.
The Hollywood heartthrobs will be here for a month from mid-October to shoot a movie based on American journalist Daniel Pearl, who was killed in Pakistan four years ago.
Jolie plays Mariane Pearl, the slain journalist's wife, who wrote the book " A Mighty Heart", on which the film is based. The star couple will be accompanied by their three kids - Maddox, Zahara and Shiloh-Nouvel.
Pune, scored over other locations for the shooting as the city's landscape and ambience resembled between Karachi and Islamabad in Pakistan where Pearl was beheaded in cold blood.
Pune is the cultural capital of Maharashtra, the state in western India known more for the city of Mumbai - the land of Bollywood. It is the city where the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) is located and is also an information technology hub.
According to well informed sources here, a team from Britain and Mumbai-based producer Kailashnath Surendranath and his wife Arti did bookings in a few hotels and service apartments in the city a month ago.
Amit Bhosale, director of Bhosale Constructions, a biggie in real estate is looking forward to the stars' visit, as his bungalow could be one of the places the couple might shoot in.
"I am looking forward to the Hollywood stars' visit. I don't know where the couple will stay although a team came and saw our 30,000-sq-ft-bungalow," Bhosale told IANS.
He did not rule out the possibility of the crew using the Abby's Palace, his father Avinash Bhosale's house, in Baner, an upmarket locality in the western part of the city for the film shoot. The lush green, picturesque land has a clubhouse, helipad and a hangar.
Bhosale said the team also visited another of his sprawling big bungalows called Jijai, named after the mother of Maratha King Shivaji at Bhosale Nagar area. "I really cannot wait to meet the duo," he said, unable to control his excitement.
"I do not want to say anything at this moment please," is all that Gauri Naiknavare, director of Naiknavare Builders, who own huge service apartments called Seasons in downtown Aundh area said.
However, sources confirmed that two floors with 18 spacious rooms have been booked for the technical crew of the film from Oct 6 for six weeks.
Although all of them are double rooms, the foreign crew will occupy one each only, the sources said, adding a large crew from Bollywood, who will also stay in the city, will assist in the shooting.
Gopan Krishnan, director (sales and marketing) of Hotel Le Meridien, a five-star hotel, said that over 100 rooms have been booked in all the big hotels in the city.
"We have booked five best suites for the film unit and three other rooms. They will be our very special guests. But we have no details who will be staying with us," he said, adding that an array of Hollywood stars have enjoyed their hospitality in the past.
The Taj Blue Diamond hotel has also booked about 40 rooms for the film crew. Sources confirmed that Jolie and Pitt's security manager had surveyed the hotel and then confirmed the bookings.
Residents feel the 'star visit' will do wonders in improving Pune's image.
"It is great for the city and the youngsters will have a ball," Tripurari Sharan, director of FTII, told IANS. He added that many Hollywood stars have visited the sprawling lush green campus of the institute.
The visit has added more hype as the Jolie-Pitt starrer "Mr and Mrs Smith" was a box office hit across India raking in the moolah a year ago.
Model Vahbiz Dorabjee said she and her friends were excited about the stars touching down. "We are using all our contacts to get close to them. The city is really happening and I hope I get to shake hands with the cute Brad," she added, giggling.
"All the guys and girls are going gaga. Everywhere the talk is about the Jolie-Pitt duo and the film. There is a kind of frenzy in the air and the excitement is palpable," said city-based fashion choreographer Shekhar Sable.
Said Sonali Thatte, a senior manager with Vascon Engineers Pvt Ltd, a 20-year-old construction company: "I am excited about their stay in the city. The event will add more value to the city. The city has indeed become a hot destination for the film industry too. I hope I will get to see the duo at close range if not shake my hands with them as I am sure there will be some parties thrown for them in the city."

Brad, Angelina spark frenzy in India
PUNE, India (AP) -- Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt began shooting scenes for a movie about the life of slain journalist Daniel Pearl on Monday, said a crew member on the movie shoot in the western Indian city of Pune.
Security was tight around a spacious bungalow in the Pune suburb of Aundh, chosen because the area resembles Karachi, Pakistan, where Pearl and his wife Mariane spent time.
Jolie plays Mariane Pearl in the in the film, "A Mighty Heart," and Dan Futterman portrays Daniel Pearl. Both were involved in Monday's shoot, said a set manager who did not want to be named for fear of losing his job.
A street sign outside the bungalow has been changed to "Zamzama Fourth Street," and the height of boundary walls of adjoining cottages has been raised to replicate the area Pearl and his wife stayed in Karachi before Pearl's abduction.
The Wall Street Journal reporter was abducted and murdered in Pakistan in 2002 while researching a story on Islamic militancy.
Pune is about 160 kilometers (100 miles) south of Mumbai, India's financial and entertainment hub.
Television reporters, photographers and journalists have been camped outside the Pune hotel where the couple is staying and the bungalow since the stars arrived in India late last week. (Watch security guard choke paparazzi -- :53)
Pictures of Pitt and Jolie with their son Maddox in an autorickshaw made the front page of India's national newspapers on Monday.
Their 20-minute ride in the three-wheeler rickshaw took them past shops and department stores in downtown Pune.
The couple are in India with Maddox 5, Zahara, 18 months, and 4-month-old Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.
The movie is based on an adaptation of Mariane Pearl's book, "A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl," and will be co-produced by Plan B, a production company founded by Pitt and his ex-wife, actress Jennifer Aniston.

The MR + MRS SMITH stars and their three children arrived in India last week (ends06OCT06) to film the movie

Not everybody appreciates Angie. For her role as Marianne Pearl, her skin has to be darkeened to match that of real Marianne. Read what some people think of that (ContactMusic) :

JOLIE CRITICISED BY BLACK RIGHTS GROUPS
The casting of ANGELINA JOLIE as the mixed-race wife of late journalist DANIEL PEARL in new movie A MIGHTY HEART has been heavily criticised by black rights groups. Make-up artists are believed to have used special cosmetics to darken the GIRL, INTERRUPTED stars' skin to match that of MARIANE PEARL - but campaigners believe a real-life mixed-race actress should have been given the part. Blogs on BlackLooks.org read, "I had assumed that the days when white actors took on the roles of black people had long passed away... "There are mixed-race or black actresses who could have done a damn good job in this role. "You can't tell me that HALLE BERRY or other women of African descent wouldn't have been a better choice - what is taking place here is an act of arrogance and whitewashing by people who think that because they are super-rich they can be anything they want."

I agree, Halle Berry could have played the role, but the director chose Angie, and personally, there's nothing wrong about that. It's part of the job to be made up. I don't agree with the fact she's rich and does anything she wants. She just does her job. What's wrong with that ?
Playing theater, I'm also made up to look older, to look younger, I wear wigs, I do what the producer asks me to do to look like the character I play.
Really, I don't understand why Angie is criticized because she has her skin darkened for her role.
Unluckily period for Angie currently. After having had to change the location for filming (as Pakistan was considered to be too dangerous for the team), after these critics about darkening her skin, Angie's car was involved in an accident in Pune. Don't worry, she wasn't driving, but, never nice to be involved in a crash. Read this from ContactMusic :

JOLIE VEHICLE KNOCKS DOWN TEEN BIKER
A car carrying ANGELINA JOLIE knocked down a teenage motorbiker in Pune, India on Wednesday night (11OCT06). The actress was sitting reading in the backseat of the Toyota Qualis when it collided with 19-year-old MITTAL RAWAT as her driver was attempting to escape pursuing paparazzi. Luckily Rawat escaped with only minor bruises, but reported the incident to local police after the driver continued driving and did not stop to check if he was hurt. Rawat tells the Indian Express newspaper, "Two vehicles were also proceeding in the same direction and tried to overtake me. One of the vehicles brushed against my motorcycle and I fell down. Both the vehicles sped away without stopping." Senior police inspector GOVIND PAWAR says the driver may be charged with rash and negligent driving, adding, "It is a serious offence and the driver can be arrested if found guilty." Jolie and boyfriend BRAD PITT are in India filming A MIGHTY HEART, an adaptation of MARIANE PEARL's book about her late husband, Wall Street journal reporter DANIEL PEARL, who was murdered by Islamic extremists in Pakistan in 2002.

A pity the driver didn't stop ...
Honestly, it must be hard to drive in India, I've never been there but according to what we can see on TV traffic is quite messy over there.

At first it was feared Angie was in the vehicle involved in the accident. But we now know she wasn't (and I'm almost sure if she had been in it she'd have requested the driver to stop, we know she cares a lot about people), yet traffic conditions are apalling in India, ... and very dangerous. So, safety first of all !

And here is another incident Angie didn't witness herself. I got this story from ContactMusic as usual : a photographeer was punched by a security guard. We know film makers don't like very much when pictures are taken whilst films are shot, to preserve secrecy.

PHOTOGRAPHER: 'I WAS PUNCHED ON JOLIE FILM SET'
A freelance photographer is accusing security guards protecting the set of ANGELINA JOLIE's latest movie of punching and threatening him at gunpoint. The Associated Press photographer claims he was threatened on Friday (13OCT06), the second run-in between the star's security and the news media this week. Jolie and her family are in the western Indian city of Pune to film scenes for the movie A MIGHTY HEART, which is based on the life of slain journalist DANIEL PEARL. The photographer representing the AP, GUAUTUM SINGH, insists he gained legitimate access to the set, but was accosted by security after giving Jolie his business card. Singh handed the star his card during a break in filming and was then approached by one American security guard and two Indian guards, all of whom verbally abused him. Singh says one of the Indian guards punched him in the face and he swung back, also hitting the guard in the face. Then, he said, the other Indian guard "grabbed me and the first guard punched me again". The photographer says the first Indian guard then drew a gun and said he would be shot if he did not leave. He was then released and collected his equipment and left the film set. Jolie did not witness the incident, he said, adding that his face was bruised under his right eye but he was otherwise unhurt. The actress and her boyfriend BRAD PITT were involved in a dust-up with the media earlier this week (08OCT06) when they were leaving their hotel and one of their security guards roughed up a British photographer trying to take their photo.

Some news from Actustar, about the movie :
Angie was in Marseille on Tuesday, October , 2006.
The actress spent some days in France (department 13, Bouches du Rhône) to shoot some scenes of "A Mighty Heart".
She was dressed in white, "wearing" a false belly, as Marianne Pearl was 5 months pregnant in that period of her life.
As a reminder, the American journalist, Daniel Pearl had been abducted and beheaded in January 2002 by Islamists in Pakistan, as he was enquiring about the 9/11 attempts.
Brad Pitt was there too, he was looking after their three children. The shooting took place in the castle of Valmousse.
Wanna know more about the castle, click here : chateau de valmousse
Some more piccies from jj, she's so beautiful as Mariane Pearl. I love her the way she looks !
