ANGELINA JOLIE's philanthropistic efforts are to be honoured at the Arab Children's Congress.
The Tomb Raider star flew out to Amman, Jordan, with her seven-year-old son Maddox on Tuesday (21Jul09) to appear as a guest of honour as a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador at the event.
Jolie has supported the foundation for years - which aims to help Arab teenagers express their voices over their hopes and needs.

She spent time with four families who were displaced from Abu Ghraib.

This is the third time that Angie has visited the war-torn country. She spoke to the locals, saying, “”I want to come back and find you in a better place and in a different situation. We hope that UNHCR and the government will support you in getting a piece of land. You need help not because you are poor, but because you are the future of Iraq.”

The 34-year-old actress took time out of her busy schedule as a United Nations Goodwill ambassador to meet with soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division and Multi-National Division-Baghdad at Iraq’s Camp Liberty.

“I visited Walter Reed [Army Medical Center] and I was inspired and reminded of all the bravery of all the men and women,” Angie shared. “I’m always just honored to spend time with everyone in the military. I was allowed to come, and I’m privileged to be here.”

Yesterday, the 34-year-old UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador visited a settlement for displaced Iraqis in northwest Baghdad, Iraq. Angie said that there is progress in returning Iraqis to their homes after years of war, but more needs to be done.

“This is a moment where things seem to be improving on the ground, but Iraqis need a lot of support and help to rebuild their lives,” Angie shared.

The couple are calling attention to the the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi refugees who remain in exile. Angie shared, “Most Iraqi refugees cannot return to Iraq in view of the severe trauma they experienced there, the uncertainty linked to the coming Iraqi elections, the security issues and the lack of basic services. They will, therefore, be in need of continued support from the international community.”

After meeting with Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad and his wife, Asma al-Assad, Angie said, “It is clear that the Syrian people, no matter the challenges or difficulties they may face, have always shown generous hospitality to people in need. I hope that the rest of the world recognizes that we all have to share this burden and continue to take care of Iraqi refugees.”
