Producer Dan Lin hit the black carpet at the US premiere of Warner Bros Pictures' 'Terminator Salvation' to talk about this latest addition to the 'Terminator' franchise. Lin also verified he's ready to work on a reboot of the 'Lara Croft' film.
[Excerpt from interview]
And you're also going to be involved in Lara Croft?
Dan Lin: "Yeah, we're rebooting Lara Croft as well. Really excited - it's a great origin story that we're going to tell. A very character-oriented I would say more realistic than the past Lara Croft movies."
Any casting on that yet?
Dan Lin: "Not yet."
But it is going to be a younger version so it can't be Angelina Jolie?
Dan Lin: "It is an origin story so it is a younger Lara Croft."
And it will be full-on action?
Dan Lin: "I would say it's like Terminator - character-driven action. I think for me the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character."
Do you ever have any qualms about being involved in existing franchises and trying to reboot them?
Dan Lin: "For sure. You want to honor the existing mythology but at the same time bring in new fans. So it's a tightrope. It's definitely a tightrope."
Were you worried about this not getting an R-rating, going PG-13, when the others were R-rated? Was there a problem that this one couldn't have been R-rated?
Dan Lin: "Honestly, we made the best movie we thought we could. We showed it to the MPAA and they said, 'Listen, it's an R-rating but if you cut a few things back - really just a few frames, you'll get a PG-13.' We looked at Dark Knight. It was a really credible movie. They didn't compromise at all and they got a PG-13. So we went with a PG-13."
