New Tomb Raider Film Coming?

Date: Tue., Nov. 29, 2005
Source: EuroGamer

Following on from the huge box office success of the first two Tomb Raider films - despite the fact that they were a bit rubbish - rumour has it that Lara may get a third outing on the big screen.

That's according to The Business Online, which quotes 'Hollywood sources' as saying negotiations between Paramount Pictures and SCI have already begun.

Word is that Angelina Jolie, star of the first films, has "expressed an interest" in stepping into Lara's shorts once again - and there's even a rumour that Brad Pitt will have a small role in the movie, though we suspect that's just our old friend Internet Reports getting up to mischief again.

That said, there has been chatter about a third Tomb Raider film in the past. Early last year, film producer Lloyd Levin told US Official PlayStation Magazine that international returns on the first two films would more than justify a third. At the same time, Chris Barrie (he of Rimmer from Red Dwarf fame), who played Lara Croft's butler in the films, said a third was "on the slate" in an interview with trash-peddling red-top The Sun.

It's thought that Paramount paid Eidos, in the days before the SCI buyout, a one-off licensing fee for Tomb Raider when the first film was produced in 1998. Eidos also got a percentage of merchandise sales and box office takings

An Eidos spokesperson declined to comment on reports about a third film, telling Eurogamer: "We do not comment on rumours." But seeing as the first two movies grossed more than $450 million, and there's a new Tomb Raider game due out next year, it doesn't seem too unlikely that Lara will be returning to cinemas.

Powerful. But surprising as well. Although they say it might just be a rumor, I do hope that it becomes real. The first two films weren't too much of a letdown, in my opinion

Edited: Like what Lady Croft said (this was added on after I saw the post), the second film didn't really touch much on tomb raiding, but mostly on artifacts. While that is what lara always wanted to find, it didn't really boil down to the name "Tomb Raider", except maybe during the initial parts of the movie

Let's see how this one goes. I'd be happy to see a third movie though. Maybe one last time would be good. http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/smile.gif If this one pulls through, I would definitely like to see Angelina play Lara's role once again and crossed my fingers that the film will actually contain, all if not, most of Tomb Raider aspects and quality. I really think the second movie strayed from what Tomb Raider really is. Way too much like a James Bond movie, I'm sure most would agree, but I'm not saying I didn't enjoy all the actions because I did but I didn't exactly get the feeling that it was Tomb Raider. But it was still nice.

Here is some real facts:

Yes there is a Tombraider movie 3.

They did promise Angelina the part, then gave it away. The person playing Lara will be Valerie Perez. To me, she is not all that pretty. I think AJ is better.

There is a website: tearsofthedragon.org

I am dissappointed in the movie industry. They say one thing and do another. I did not think they would lie to us fans, but, they did. :D

Please don't mix (or should I say "mislead fans"?) fan made movie with official Tomb Raider movie... The mentioned title and web site are not official Tomb Raider movie related in ANY way.
