"There Won't Be a Third Lara Croft Film"
Hellboy and Tomb Raider franchise producer Lawrence Gordon tells the Chicago Sun-Times that there won't be a third Lara Croft film.
"I don't think the financiers will do it," he says. "I don't think the last film did the business we expected. Of course, I'd love to do another one. Angelina Jolie is perfect as Lara Croft."
Meanwhile, his partner Lloyd Levin talked a bit about another comic book adaptation they are working on. "We're going to do 'The Watchmen'. It's about a group of superheroes who reunite to figure out who is trying to kill them off."
Levin adds that "it's different characters, but it's really a unique story because it deals with the spiritual aspect of being a superhero."

hey thanks for the scoop shehi! do you know what the date of that issue was? i've been telling people that COL lost a lot of money and they wouldn't make a 3rd movie but no one believed me. http://forum.tombrai...tyle_emoticons/default/mad.gif i was dissappointed with both movies. maybe i was expecting too much, but it just didn't feel like the games to me. angelina was good, but there are so many actresses who would have been better in my opinion.

Let's be honest- the films weren't anything special. OK, they weren't The Avengers or Mortal Kombat bad, but I personally think Jolie's Lara deserved a better writer and a better director.
Sadly, I don't think if I was a financer I'd think "Hey, third time's a charm". Eidos blamed the film's poor showing for their poor sales, and Paramount vice versa- the down side of synergy!
So ultimately, I'm not surprised they pulled the plug.

Indeed, I don't go call my fanfic a novel (I do have a novel published, but that's another story).
The problem with the Tomb Raider films is that they could have been better- they lacked decent villains for one. The first one had some good action sequences, but was blown by poor pacing, a melodramatic subplot and then compounded this by pulling a Lost In Space- sorry, if I ever become an exec, I am banning time travel as a plot saving device.

Agreed. Some elements in the game were quite inspiring - her manor fight, Ankor Wat scenes, some part of Syberia scene etc. But once it started to become sensitive, romantic and especially scifi, it ruined everything. But overall, the first film is better than the second one in my eye.

I thought the second one was light-years beyond the first one; it had a much better and more believable bad guy, one who actually went to some trouble to avoid the stereotypical Bad Guy Mistakes. The plot line wasn't as ludicrous and disjointed as the first one, and the pacing and camerawork were good. I think that if a third one were as much improved over the second as the second was over the first, it would be an excellent movie. I don't think anyone's going to bet on that, unfortunately.

Sadly, it's usually called The Law Of Diminishing Returns for a reason. Threequels for the most part aren't great- the recent exception being Final Destination 3 and I hope X-Men and Spiderman 3!
